Fifteen projects were entered in the 2009 CRA Program. |
|||
|
Our judges visited every one of these homes in one
day to determine the winners. As usual, our member put up some
great projects, and that made the process that much more difficult. But, in the end, only one
project could win in each category.
In our opinion, every one of these entries deserves an award because the homeowners are very pleased with the results and are happy with their contractors. Here's a quick look at each of the entries this year. Winning projects are marked with the CRA logo on the right. Thanks to everyone who entered and we look forward to seeing your future projects. |

Traditional Homes -
McCardell Kitchen Remodel
John McCardell and his finacee Margaret were in the planning their wedding when they bought this 1940s bungalow home in historic Shandon. They quickly learned that the 1940s-style kitchen didn't work for them. Enter Carolina Traditional Homes... they re-imagined the entire space moving the fridge, sink, stove, microwave and added new countertops, cabinets, floors... you name it.... all without adding any square footage. |

A-Therm Inc. - Wales Kitchen Remodel The Wales' had a small galley kitchen located at the front of their home and a bedroom at the back of the house. They wanted a modern, open plan kitchen and a new master suite. Pete Williams of A-Therm Inc. put the kitchen where the bedroom was and planned the new master suite to go where the kitchen was. As you can imagine, a lot of work was done to make the transformation, but A-Therm is equal to the task. The project came out great. |

Remodeling Services Unlimited - DeFelice Kitchen The DeFelice's had a fairly open kitchen with a bar for seating and a cooktop island, but they wanted a space more conducive to entertaining. And a wine cellar. Cheryl Waters of Remodeling Services Unlimited designed the new kitchen while the homeowner designed the cellar. The remodel required the removal of a wall and installation of a steel beam for support, many meticulous cuts to build the wine cellar and its barrel ceiling. The final result is a fantastic entertainment and cooking-friendly space. |

Kirk Contracting - Gilbert Kitchen This project started out as a kitchen facelift and grew into a total kitchen remodel and converted living space. Thank goodness the Gilbert's hired a professional remodeler who could roll with the changes. Kirk Contracting took the out-of-date kitchen and transformed it into a large pantry, storage and future laundry room. The new kitchen has everything the homeowner wanted including custom cabinets, granite counters and a giant walk-in pantry. |

Hinson Cabinet & Supply -
Zimmerman Kitchen Remodel
The Zimmerman's were looking to update their living space and bring all areas of the home into focus upon entering the home. Hinson Cabinet company accomplished this by replacing the flooring throughout the downstairs, tying all of the rooms together. They carried an elegant painted and glazed cabinet design through the rooms and stained wood tied the look together. The hand-carded marble fireplace was most impressive. |

John Westfall Renovations, Inc. - Johnson Bath Remodel
The Johnson's needed a new look in their 60 square foot master bathroom. They wanted it to have a fresh look and have the appearance of being larger. John Westfall accomplished this by changing out the cabinets and counter top, adding a large shower. The room was made brighter with a good choice of colors for the small room and great lighting. You'd never be able to guess that this bathroom is only 60 square feet now. |

& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Sello Residence
The Sello's wanted to finish out their 4th floor attic space. They called the right company, because Design & Remodeling Solutions does a lot of this type of work. The trick here was that the Sello's wanted to take a 2,000 unfinished space and make a den, library, bedroom, full bathroom, office space and a game room! The list of difficulties and solutions on this project are too long to list here, but the project came out great and won an award to boot. |

& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Glover/Domino Residence This couple had purchased a home and decided to remodel the entire interior. No big problem there, until the deadline was established. They wanted to host the entire family from out of town for Thanksgiving, just 75 days away. In that short amount of time the kitchen, living room, dining room, stairway, master bedroom and master bath were all remodeled and hardwood floors were installed and the whole house was painted. Great final look and an amazing turnaround time. |

Traditional Homes - Moore Renovation/Addition
The Moore's were downsizing into a smaller home, but this one turned out to be a little too small, and it needed some work. Carolina Traditional Homes added 768 sq. ft. to the space to expand on the kitchen area and master suite. The space was slightly reconfigured for better flow and the entire house was repainted. It turned out to be a very nice remodel and renovation and the homeowners are very happy with their new home. |

Ahn Design, LLC - Brock Residence
Mrs. Brock has a big family that loves her very much. And they visit a lot. The house needed some work to be able to accommodate the kids and grandkids and to have a more user-friendly kitchen (Mrs. Brock does a lot of baking). The entire center portion of the home was opened from the front door to the back to make one huge living space with dining area, kitchen with 2 large islands, bar seating and a separate seating area. The roof was also raised to make storage space for the family and a playroom with full bath for the kids. |

| Category 9 - Outdoor Living | |||
|
Crystal Pools - Jordan Backyard and Pool Crystal Pools built this swimming pool in the early 1970's. Outdoor and pool design techniques and trends have changed significantly over time so the homeowner called them back to update the entire space. Crystal Pools and CP Design was able to take the Jordan's interior style and bring it to the outdoors for a brand new living space. The pool and landscaping were brought into the present and given a great new look and feel. |
