The Central South Carolina chapter of Habitat for Humanity has a great store for consumers called the ReStore.  It's located in West Columbia on Hwy 378, just across the Gervais Street bridge from downtown Columbia.

The store features many great home improvement products from doors and windows, to furniture, sinks and tubs.  Many of the materials are donated (new, like new and used) and are available for purchase at great discounts.
One of the way to make a donation is to have your house "harvested" by the ReStore team.  Call the ReStore to set up a harvesting of your home before a remodeling project and the Habitat for Humanity pro's and volunteers will come and take only what you want them to take (and what will go into the store for re-sale).  Not only will you help Habitat for Humanity build a new home for a deserving family, you'll also get a tax benefit.
In this example, we see a nice kitchen in a home that was about to undergo some remodeling.  (Before picture, above)  Instead of having the remodeler or contractor take out the old cabinets and throw them away or store them for another job, this kitchen was scheduled to be harvested for the ReStore.  And below, we see the same cabinets after the "reverse remodel" in the ReStore, ready to be purchased by someone else.
To learn more about harvesting, please contact CSC Habitat for Humanity at (803) 252-3570 or on line at www.habitatcsc.org.
